Barnes and Noble Sight and See

This is actually part of my newspaper final which I got a 97% overall on. On this assignment, I received a 100% and praise from Momma Baker because she noticed that my writing skills have improved dramatically since I was a freshman. The assignment was to go to a public setting and observe what was happening at the place while you were there so I chose Barnes and Noble. I observed some interesting things while I was there and wrote this awesome sight and see piece for it. Enjoy!

Walking into the Eastgate Barnes and Noble store, one would immediately notice the drastic temperature difference from the freezing degrees outside to the heat coming from the heater in the store. The temperature difference is so great that some customers choose to take their jackets off as they wander around the store.

Immediately to the left of the main entrance, a table with a box for donations for a charity called "Childstart for Santa Gift Wrapping" stands with nobody in sight near it. Going through the rest of the store finds a young man, in his early to mid teens intently reading out of a "manga" book; half an hour later, he still hasn't moved.

Near the bathrooms and the left rear end of the store, an employee talks to an elderly man who, combined with his Santa hat and shaggy white beard, looks suspiciously like Santa visiting the store looking for books for the children. A mere foot away is a woman sitting on a loveseat reading her book as she uses her fuzzy green jacket as a blanket.

Continuing through the back of the store brings the customer past the café area. The aroma of hot chocolate and coffee pollutes the air around the café, making it so customers can almost taste chocolate in their mouths.

Walking around to the front of the café, a customer is finishing ordering her drinks. When she is finished, the worker at the register speaks to her.

"Anything else you need?" the worker says and the customer shakes her head no.

Meanwhile, a display of Harry Potter products to the right of the café would be enough for any Harry Potter fan to surge with excitement. Mere inches away, customers shuffle through books on clearance that are stored in boxes right in front of the children's section.

In the children's section, two young girls, possibly sisters, play together, running around in circles away from the books. A mother and daughter stand for a few seconds looking at a certain book before the daughter makes up her mind and walks away.

"You want to think about it?" the mother asks, but the daughter says no and they continue on.

At the cash registers, a blonde woman of about fifty holds her coffee in her hands, talking loudly to a friend on the phone.
"I'm standing in line with coffee and a mug," she says, not caring that she is getting a few eyebrows raised from nearby customers.

Two male and two female employees, all middle-aged, work at the cash registers, effectively checking out customers and assisting them with their needs. One customer, an elderly grandmother sort sparks a conversation with one of the female employees.

"That's for my grandson," she says proudly about one of her purchases.

After checking out, the customers walk back to the main entrance of the store and put their jacket back on, ready to face the freezing temperatures of the outside world once again.
