Revelations

This is a sequel to "Betrayal" where Detective Benson uncovers his former partner's past. Enjoy!

A week after discovering that his partner had been the ringleader in a plot to kill a woman in the Miami area, Detective Elliot Benson returned to work at the Miami Police Department, having spent the last week in the hospital recovering from being shot in the knee. Benson limped on his cane into Sheriff Hank Keough's office, where Keough and Detective Olivia Scott sat waiting for him. Benson sat down and Keough spoke.

"While you were in the hospital, we did interviews with Calita and Jericho after they were patched up," Keough said.

"And?" Benson replied.

"We found out that Jericho wasn't the ringleader of his crime empire. It turns out that he was the lieutenant of the leader and he did the majority of the crime lord's dirty work."

"Who is the crime lord?"

"Solomon Caine," Keough said. "Now, I want you on this case Benson and I'm assigning Olivia here to be your partner."

"Very well. Let's get to work Scott."

For the rest of the day, Benson and Scott did research on Solomon Caine. They questioned Jericho and Calita who both revealed that Caine's empire was based in Los Angeles. In addition, Calita heavily implied that Jones was somehow closely linked and possibly related to Caine. Benson contacted the LAPD and spoke with Detective Mark Kincaid, who was in charge of the investigation there and gave Kincaid details relating to Caine's whereabouts. Kincaid thanked him and informed Benson that the information was sufficient enough for them to locate Caine and take him down once they were done talking. After getting off the phone with Kincaid, Benson and Scott presented their findings to Keough.

"Well done, you two," Keough said when they had finished explaining everything they found out about Caine. "I think the two of you should travel to LA first thing tomorrow morning and see if you can get some answers from Caine himself."

The following morning, Benson and Scott boarded the first flight out of Miami for LA. They arrived at 9 AM local time and headed to the LAPD. Once inside, they asked for Kincaid and were led into his office.

"Thanks to you Detective Benson, we were able to locate Caine's headquarters and successfully takedown every person who was in the building, including Caine himself," Kincaid explained once Benson and Scott sat down at his desk. "He has not yet been questioned. Would you like to speak with him yourself?"

"Absolutely," replied Benson.

All three of them stood up and Kincaid led them to the interrogating room where Benson and Scott waited for Kincaid to return with Caine. After a few minutes, Kincaid escorted Caine into the room. Caine looked like the typical criminal: bald head, arms covered in tattoos, a muscular build, his face looking as though it hadn't been shaved in weeks and the like. Kincaid sat Caine down in front of Benson and Scott.

"Solomon Caine, I'm Detective Benson, this is my partner Detective Scott, we are with the Miami PD," Benson said.

"Benson. Isn't that Jones' partner?"

"How do you know Tobias Jones?"

"Jones was a good friend of mine. He was my most trusted adviser back in France where I started my business," Caine explained. "When I came here, he decided to go undercover for me when we arrived in Florida and trained to be a police officer. I told him to stay there so he could keep an eye on Jericho for me. I trusted Jericho too, but I had suspicions that he would betray me."

"Why did you think he would betray you?" Scott asked.

"He became more distant with me once we arrived here. I think he had plans to take me out with Calita and then take over the business."

"Do you know who the woman is that Jones had killed?"

"Some bitch that Jones, Baccus, Jericho and I all dated at some point or another. She cheated on every one of us. I got over it pretty easily. Baccus and Jericho did too. But I think Jones was pushed over the edge because he thought she had really changed. When he found out that she had cheated on him, he called and told me what had happened. He said that he was going to contact Jericho and find out if it was the same woman we all had dated. After they killed her, Jones told me what had happened and that he had plans to frame his partner, Benson. I told him that was no chance he could do that and he told me to watch him."

"And was that the last time you spoke to him?"

"Yes," Caine replied. "Did he try framing you then?"

"He had no chance," Benson said. "I arrived to arrest Jericho after taking down Baccus and then Jones and Calita revealed themselves to me and explained everything except the fact that they all worked for you. Sheriff Keough and Scott here arrived in time to shoot Calita and Jericho, enough only to put them out of commission, before Jones recovered and shot me in the knee. I then grabbed my gun and shot him three times in the chest. He died almost instantly."

"I'm sorry to hear it. But it doesn't really matter now that you've all caught everyone in my empire. We were dying anyway and I was looking to get out of the business altogether and move on."

Benson and Scott then thanked Kincaid for allowing them to speak with Caine and left the department. They caught the next flight back to Miami and discussed what they had learned from Caine.

"You think he still had feelings for the girl?" asked Benson.

"I could tell that he does," replied Scott. "He also cared deeply for Jones. Maybe that is why he decided to get out of the business he was in. He probably realized that he cared too much about the people involved with it that he decided it was time for him to get out of it."

"Hopefully that will be enough to get him less time in prison than the rest of his crew since he was planning to move on with his life and start anew."

"Maybe. I know that the ones we have will definitely get a life sentence at least."

"And they'll deserve it. Caine wouldn't though because he wasn't a murderer. I could tell by the look on his face. We just have to wait and see."

A month after finding out everything Benson and Scott could about the case, Caine was sentenced to fifteen years in prison for leading a crime faction. Back in Miami, Jericho, Calita, and Baccus were given life sentences. They would remain in prison, with the knowledge that they had murdered an innocent victim, forever. Meanwhile, Benson and Scott had moved on with their careers as detectives, remaining partners for quite some time and soon became the dynamic duo, successfully capturing hundreds of criminals and wiping out dozens of crime waves. All was well.
